Make Your Own Tissue Pom Poms

                                         Tissue Pom Poms

You only need a few materials and some practice, and you too can easily make these for your big day.

You will need:

Your Choice of Tissue Paper Color or Patterns
17″ x 30″ for Medium size Pom-Poms
20″ x 30″ for large Pom-Poms
8-11 Sheets per Pom-Pom Ball (the more sheets, the fuller the ball)
24 gauge floral or craft wire – About 6 inches of wire for each Pom Pom.
Mono-filament (fishing line) or string for hanging,
Scissors

Ready to make some poms!

Stack 8-11 sheets of your choice tissue paper you need to make 1 1/2″ wide accordion folds.

Creasing with each fold.

You can make the ball one solid color by stacking 8-11 sheets of the same color tissue. Or you can use 2 varying colors alternating the colors in one ball.

Fold a 6 inch piece of wire in half and slip over the center of the folded tissue and twist to secure.

Trim the ends of your folded tissue into rounded or pointy shapes. With scissors.

Separate the layers, pulling away from the center one at a time.
Tie a length of monofilament or string to the floral wire twisted in the center for hanging.

Elegant Outside to Shabby Chic or Family Barn

In my 25 years of helping a bride have the wedding and reception of her dream, to say I have seen it all would be an understatement.  The brides I have helped in the last year are more about their wedding being more personalized than for the so called wow factor.

Outside wedding held at a more interment location or at a family members home have become a very much sought after day.  I love the more laid back atmosphere, with so many personal and homey touches. Outside and home weddings show the love of family and friends, and play a very huge part of the brides and grooms special day.

So pulling from the weddings I have helped with in the past year, I want to show some of the same story board and inspirational themes and ideas for the DYI bride.

Your wedding can be an elegant affair with a story book feel with lace candles, to a grand shabby chic affair with wonderful touches of vintage or  a simple service with the barn decorated with sting lights and huge tissue pom poms with a huge party after.

Inspirations pictures we gathered ideas from:

A few extra touches always make the event more personal.

Shop at your local thrift stores and you can find old individual salt and pepper shakers, and use wire to make the card holders for the tables.
Hobby Lobby and Michael's carry a good assortment of bottles, and jewelry brooches to adhere to the jars.  Add ribbon and your ready to put your place cards in salt and pepper and some small flowers to match your theme in the bottles and place on tables or in clusters of different size and shape bottles.

Another great find at thrift store and antique markets are plates you would love to use over and over again.   Have your guest and your bridal party writes well wishes on them or maybe a favorite recipe with a permanent marker.

Use mason jars at your outside wedding; you can fill with sand and place a candle inside, or as in the above picture make a chandelier with the clear and blue jars. I like the use of the mason jars with different colors of sand instead of the unity candle.

So Many Options

I have been in the wedding business since 1983, by now I laugh saying I could write a book on the things NOT to do. It has been a labor of love to help each of my brides and I love every minute of it. In my blogs maybe I can pass along a good tip, inspire with an idea, and hopefully keep away any disasters.

So many of the brides I have worked with have in may ways wanted to help with some of the decorations they have decided to use on their special day.  Reception table decorations are very simple to do if the bride wants to add her own flair to her wedding.

There are so many options to choose from depending on your wedding theme or the place of venue.  From simple flowers used at an outside wedding at a family barn to less flowers and more candles at the church you grew up in, to a more elaborate affair.

It all comes down to sitting down planning out the look, feel and price range. When working with your venue at a larger location, please read all the guide lines your given at your first meeting. Ask questions and talk about some of what you may be want to do yourself ( like if your wanting to make the arrangements for tables ).  If it is your best friends barn or your own church there are many decorations you can make. Hotels usually include arrangements in certain areas, and maybe you can bring down the price if your will to make the arrangements yourself or order from your local craft or florist.
